Richard – wonder if Ezra as a writer, might have added subtle self-examination of himself and of Israel in his re-recording of the Pentateuch, much the same way modern translators add their own reflection (based on personal ideology or personal discovery) to the translations of the bible?
It’s certainly possible, but only to the extent God allowed it, of course.
