In his November 6, 2024, article, “A Sobering Mercy,” Joel M. Ellis contemplates Donald J. Trump’s election from the perspective of biblical types and lands on Jehu as the scriptural equivalent. God called upon Jehu, like Trump, not a godly man, to “drain the swamp” during his day, but His intervention, designed to inspire revival, just delayed the nation’s downfall. (You may wish to read/listen to my 2014 sermon comparing Jehu to Jesus, “A Different Kind of Savior,” or my November 2024 Bible Study comparing Trump to Jehu, “Jehu: A Type for Today.”)
But the Lord has not given us a David, Jehoshaphat, or Josiah to rule. He has raised up Jehu, and there remains much work to be done. It is not enough to tear down the temple of Baal; we must erect an altar to the true God of heaven and cry out for mercy and forgiveness for our many sins.
